Jonathan H. Stevens, age 75, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 13, 2026, after a long and valiant fight against juvenile diabetes.
He dedicated many years to the practice of law. He was part of a small partnership in Burlington and then later worked at Paul, Frank and Collins. He later studied environmental law at the Vermont Law School and was employed by the State of Vermont working on statewide water quality issues. His early years were spent in Southern California, but most of his school years were in Eastchester, N.Y. There he developed a lifelong love of Scouting and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Eastchester High School and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University before attending law school at Cleveland State University and then settling in Burlington.
Jonathan was also a lover of music. He sang; played multiple instruments, including the harmonica and banjo; and was known to serenade his neighbors on his front porch on Drew Street with his ukulele renditions of old standards. For many years, he attended the Unitarian Church in Burlington and was a member of their board of directors.
He was predeceased by his parents, Don and Martha Jane Stevens. He is survived by his brother, Andrew Stevens
Jonathan’s memorial ceremony will be on Saturday, September 12, 2026, 2:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Church at the top of Church Street in Burlington, Vt.
