Mahlon Wayne Conner, affectionately known as Wayne, was born on November 25, 1946, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Fla., at the age of 79.

Wayne grew up in Burlington, Vt., where he graduated from Burlington High School in 1964 before attending the University of Vermont, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. Following college, he taught school before beginning a career in engineering. His career eventually brought him to Wichita, Kan., where he and his family lived while he worked at Boeing for 20 years before retiring.

Wayne and his spouse, Barbara, were married on July 29, 2005, in Wichita, Kan.

After retirement, Wayne and Barb enjoyed traveling between Florida and Vermont, visiting family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting his grandkids in person or via FaceTime.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Micco, Fla.; son, Scott (Nola), of Alcester, S.D.; daughter, Beth (Jon) Marteney, of Augusta, Kan.; stepdaughters, Stacie and Erica Rose, of Vermont; grandchildren, Abby, Molly, Luke, Emmy, Cameron, Carter and Logan; and sisters, Marcia Conner, Cheryl (Doug) Stafford and Alison (Peter) Joyce.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Joyce Conner.

The family plans on having a time of remembrance later this summer at one of his favorite places, Lake Champlain in Vermont.
