Marcia Mary Morrell of Richmond, Vt., was welcomed into her Heavenly Father’s arms on June 24, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.

Born on March 31, 1948, in Syracuse, N.Y., to John and Mary Morris, Marcia was known for her warmth, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued and loved. She graduated from West Genesee High School in 1966 and earned a degree in mathematics from Elmira College in 1970, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

After beginning a career at the Federal Reserve Board, she devoted herself to raising her family before finding her true calling in the classroom. She taught at Camel’s Hump Middle School for more than 20 years, where her patience, kindness and love of learning inspired generations of students.

On July 11, 1970, Marcia married her high school sweetheart, Doug Morrell. While she studied abroad in Scotland, they faithfully maintained a long-distance relationship. Doug proposed over hamburgers and chocolate milkshakes the day she returned home, marking the beginning of nearly 56 years of devoted marriage filled with love, friendship and joy in even life’s simplest moments.

A charter member of Evangelical Covenant Community Church, Marcia lived her faith through compassion, humility and service. She loved reading, volunteering at the Richmond Public Library, traveling, tea and, above all, her family. Affectionately known as “Biza” and “Mummi,” she treasured every moment with her six grandchildren.

Marcia is survived by her beloved husband, Doug; her daughters, Catherine and Sherri, and their husbands; her sister, Carolyn; six cherished grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held on August 8, 2026, at Camel’s Hump Middle School in Richmond. Doors open at 1 p.m., with an informal service beginning at 2 p.m. Please join us to gather, share memories and celebrate her life. All are welcome. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Marcia’s memory.
