Obituary: Peter Harvey, 1943-2026

Peter Harvey, 82, of South Burlington, Vt., passed away on August 13, 2026, of natural causes.

Born in Passaic, N.J., and raised in Rutherford, N.J., Peter spent his career in manufacturing control and management in Vermont, first as a cost accountant at Rossignol and later as planning and production manager at Wyeth Nutritionals.

After retiring, he and his wife, Marsha (“Marty”) Weston Harvey, lived in Naples, Fla., and on Fox Island, Wash., before returning to Vermont to be near Peter’s children and grandchildren.

Wherever Peter lived, he found his way outside. He hiked the Green Mountains with his children, climbed Mount Rainier with Marty and paddled the waters of Puget Sound. He remained an avid tennis player and hiker to the end of his life.

Marty, his wife of 35 years, was the light of his life. They shared the trails and the tennis court and loved being active outdoors.

Peter was always a kid at heart, and children recognized it immediately. He led them on nocturnal snipe hunts that anyone who went on one still remembers, and he ran Christmas games his grandchildren will miss and intend to carry on in his memory.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Mabel Harvey, and by his eldest brother, Alan “Dick” Harvey.

He is survived by Marty; his children, Dawn Harvey and Christopher Harvey, and daughter-in-law Thuy Anh Harvey; his four grandchildren; his brothers, David Harvey (JoAnn DeLuca), Steve Harvey (Patricia) and Robin Harvey (Ann); and his sister-in-law Margaret Harvey.

A private family funeral has been held, and there will be no public service. Those who would like to remember Peter may consider the Green Mountain Club, which keeps the trails he so enjoyed walking.
