In the early hours of May 4, 2026, our beloved brother, Peter Thomas, passed away following an extended illness.
Peter was born eighth of 10 children on January 4, 1958, in Burlington, Vt., to Marion & Everett McCaffrey.
He attended schools in Burlington, graduating in 1977 from Rice Memorial High School and Burlington Vocational Academy with high concentration in the printing business. The majority of his working career was with the Lane Press in Burlington. He later was employed by Costco in Vermont and South Carolina, retiring in 2018.
Peter enjoyed a good game of golf and was happy to discuss world events, especially anything that related to the Boston Red Sox, which he listened to faithfully on the radio. Growing up, Peter was a fierce and loyal protector of his two youngest sisters, Patty and Kathy. His joyfulness, infectious smile and loving, helping ways will be sadly missed every day.
Peter is survived by his son Justin McCaffrey; Justin’s partner, Laci Flanagan; and granddaughter Naomi; and his siblings, Rosemary Cross, Nancy Conaway (Michael), Paul McCaffrey (Christina), Elizabeth McCaffrey, John McCaffrey (Laurie), Marianne Martell (John), Patricia Rudolph (Mark) and Katherine McCaffrey; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Laurie McCaffrey. Peter will also be missed by his many lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by his son Thomas; his parents, Mac and Marion McCaffrey; brother William McCaffrey; nephews Timothy Martell and Alex Rudolph; and brother-in-law Arthur Cross.
A celebration of Peter’s life will take place at a later date.
