Richard Paul “Dick” Bouffard, 89, passed away on October 17, 2026, at Mansfield Place Assisted Living in Essex, Vt., with his loving family by his side. Richard was born in Winooski, Vt., on March 25, 1937, to the late Henri and Lena (Campbell) Bouffard.
The youngest of 11 children, Dick was raised in Winooski by his mill-working parents, who had come together in marriage with three children between them after both of their spouses died in the 1918 flu epidemic. They went on to have eight children together, of which Dick was the youngest. A standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball, Dick graduated from Winooski High School in 1956. Following graduation, Dick joined the Vermont Army National Guard, attended radar school and served for six years.
Dick was one of the original employees hired by IBM in 1957 for its new manufacturing plant in Essex Junction, Vt. He began his career assembling circuit boards and finished in the high-tech world of silicon chip production. Dick retired from IBM in 1992 after 35 years of service and remained a proud IBMer until the end of his life. He was delighted to reunite with other retirees during the time he resided at Mansfield Place.

While working at IBM, Dick met Nancy Jean King of Richford, Vt. Dick and Nancy were married on November 15, 1958, and moved to Milton in 1959, where they raised their three children, Linda, Bobbi and David. As a volunteer with the Milton Rescue Squad and the Milton Fire Department, Dick served his Milton community for more than a dozen years. After retiring from IBM, Dick and Nancy spent many summers at their camp on Lake Carmi enjoying time with their beloved grandchildren. Dick and Nancy enjoyed winters with their Silver Sands friends in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Dick was an avid golfer, playing in leagues in both Vermont and Florida.
An extremely caring and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Dick will be greatly missed and is survived by his children, Linda Bouffard Lang, Roberta “Bobbi” Bouffard Biron (Mark) and David Bouffard (William Bowick); grandchildren, Taylor Lang (Breanne), Catherine Lang, Abigail Biron Doria (Tony) and Andrew Biron (Bridget); great-grandchildren, Emmy, Lexi and Rosie Lang; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth King Doe and Linda King Fil (Henry Jr.); niece, Jennifer Fil Hill (Dan); grand- and great-grand pets; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henri and Lena Bouffard; his wife of 66 years, Nancy King Bouffard; stepbrother, Armand Bouffard; stepsister, Blanche Bouffard Johnson; brothers, Raymond, Henry, Roland, Robert and Maurice Bouffard; sisters, Hortense Bouffard Frenette and Jeanette Bouffard Kane; and very special half-sister, Ruth Campbell Karyta.
In addition to the many friends and neighbors in both Vermont and Florida who offered their assistance over the years, the family would like to thank the extremely caring and thoughtful staff at Mansfield Place and University of Vermont Home Health & Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026, 4 to 6 p.m., at Minor Funeral Home in Milton, Vt. A private burial service for Dick and his beloved wife, Nancy, will be held at a later date.
