Jed Batchelder, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2026, while participating in a Spartan Race in Killington, Vt. This was his eighth Spartan Beast!
Jed lived with an adventurous spirit, remarkable determination and a desire to continually challenge himself. Strong, intelligent and endlessly curious, he was passionate about health, fitness, learning and personal growth.
Above all, Jed was immensely proud of his sons, Holden and Josh. Whether training together, working out, cold plunging into the winter waters of Lake Champlain, or hiking Camel’s Hump and Mount Philo, he treasured these shared adventures.
Community and friendship were central to Jed’s life. He was a dedicated member of CrossFit Shelburne and Shelburne Athletic Club, where he spent countless hours training and cultivating meaningful friendships. He had recently formed a band, Escape Velocity, with some of his closest friends, which had been a lifelong goal of his. Through Champlain Valley Union High School and Far Post Soccer Club, where his sons played soccer for over 10 years, he developed everlasting friendships that continued long after his sons’ playing days.
Jed spent his early years growing up in Stowe and Fairfield, Vt, where he loved playing basketball, fishing with his dad and brother Justin, playing guitar, and climbing in the Green Mountains. He graduated from the Putney School in Brattleboro, where he played lacrosse.
His love for Vermont also extended to Lake Champlain, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. Born on Burton Island, he returned for 10 consecutive summers with a cherished group of family and friends. It was where he took Kristi on her first camping trip, and just weeks before his passing, they shared one final, special visit.
Jed and Kristi shared 26 years of marriage, recommitting to one another 13 years ago at Charlotte Beach, on September 19, 2013. Together, they raised their beloved sons and built a life filled with family, adventure, and a shared passion for travel, landscaping, health/wellness and personal growth.
Professionally, Jed attended the University of Vermont, where he studied and received a degree in sociology, but later pivoted and built a career in health care IT, developing valued relationships with countless colleagues, most recently through his work with North Country Hospital, VITL and AmplerEX.
Jed will be remembered for his striking blue eyes, his strength and determination, his curiosity, his humor, and the deep connections he formed throughout his life.
Kristi, Holden and Josh were lucky enough to share one last beautiful trip with him to Europe this past June. They spent their days in Croatia along the Makarska Riviera, soaking up the sun, swimming in the crystal-clear Adriatic, eating amazing food and watching incredible sunsets. More than anything, they were just happy to be together as a family. It’s a trip they will cherish forever.
He is survived by his wife, Kristi; sons, Holden and Josh; father, Daniel Batchelder (Anne); mother, Maryam Sinclair; brother, Justin Batchelder (Amina); and many, many more cherished family and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Jed’s home, a place he poured countless hours, energy and love into, carefully perfecting every acre. Please stop by to celebrate his remarkable life.
