Rudy’s wish to “see his sisters” was granted on January 9, 2026.

Seven daughters were born to Edith Crabtree and Wilfred McDonald before Rudy appeared in 1937. The last of his generation, Rudy lost his mother in 1951 and his father in 1976.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957. He remained on inactive service until January 1963, when he was honorably discharged. Rudy is survived by his daughter Kelly.

In lieu of interment, his ashes will be privately scattered, commemorating places of special meaning to him: deer camp; a stretch of fishing along the Winooski River; and in celebration of his service aboard the USS Iowa.

Arrangements are in the care of LaVigne Funeral Home & Cremation Services. To send condolences to his family, please visit vtfuneralhomes.com.
