Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) suggested Wednesday that he would be open to legalizing marijuana if elected president.

“You know, I’m looking at what’s going on in Colorado and elsewhere,” Sanders told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. “But I am not unfavorably disposed to moving toward the legalization of marijuana.”

The Vermont independent made the remark at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where the Los Angeles-based comedian has been taping ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” all week.

Sanders frequently talks about ending the so-called war on drugs. He supports legalizing medical marijuana and decriminalizing pot. During last week’s Democratic presidential debate, he said that if he were a resident of Nevada, he “suspect[ed]” he would vote in favor of an upcoming ballot measure that would legalize it in the state. But Sanders has thus far refrained from issuing his full-throated support for nationwide legalization.

Here’s Sanders’ complete answer to Kimmel’s question:

Kimmel also asked Sanders whether he could really beat the Republican presidential nominee — and whether he believes in God:

And, needless to say, Kimmel asked Sanders what he thought about comedian Larry David’s impression of the senator on last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” which prompted Sanders to do an impression of David doing an impression of him. [Spoiler alert: It wasn’t very good.]

While Sanders drew plenty of applause from Kimmel’s audience, he had a hard act to follow: actors Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd celebrating “Back to the Future” day in-character as Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown.

Sanders did manage to appear in a photo backstage with “Doc,” to whom he has been compared in a ubiquitous internet meme:

  1. During the Democratic debate, Bernie brought up the fact that he represents a small rural state. I would love for someone to ask “Bernie” why he supports housing a dangerous, military F-35 plane, which is plagued by many technical difficulties still and locate it at the VTANG in a small airport that is surrounded by residential neighborhoods. Why did he give his okay with these heavily fueled planes flying over thousands of families and children, thus endangering them, the environment, the health and property values of the people that helped to elected him and made it possible for him to run for President. Under hard questioning, I wonder what his answer would be?

  2. Tell you this much, if enemy forces come to our shores I for one will be happy that the top of the line US Air Force jets don’t have too far to go to protect my posterior ;). I hope it never comes to that but if it should.
