Republican lieutenant governor candidate Randy Brock launched a new television ad Tuesday smacking Progressive/Democratic rival David Zuckerman over a comment Zuckerman made regarding the Vermont National Guard.
This marks the second time during the campaign that Brock has aired negative ads about Zuckerman, who held a strong lead in two recent polls as the two compete for the open lieutenant governor’s seat.
“Imagine our disgust when video surfaced showing David Zuckerman disparaging the guard for crass political gain,” the new ad’s narrator says. The ad then airs video of Zuckerman addressing a 2013 rally against F-35 fighter jets. He says: “When I look at what our planes did on 9/11, I don’t believe they stopped a single thing from happening.”
“Vermont needs a lieutenant governor who respects our National Guard,” the ad’s narrator says.
Last week, Zuckerman apologized for the 2013 comment after F-35 supporter Nicole Citro posted a video of the rally online.
Brock’s new ad is part of $10,000 in television time Brock bought on October 25, campaign spokesman Dustin Degree said.
In the last week, Zuckerman has spent $8,500 on television ads, which have sounded a positive message about the candidate without naming his opponent.

Does anyone think Brock honestly believes Zuckerman intended to malign the Guard?
Mr. Zuckerman’s quote in the ad is accurrate and honest. It does not disparage the Guard in any way. Instead of trying to be negative, the ad actually seems to highlight Mr. Zuckerman’s integrity by his ability to speak plainly.
Using 9/11 as a rallying cry to vote for Brock will be seen as a desperate measure, by an apparently desperate candidate. Vermonters will see this very clearly.
Brock will lose yet another election. Maybe next year, Randy!
Zuckerman’s statement was absolutely correct.. The Vermont Air Guard did not stop anything on 9/11. That is all he said. If they did, in fact, “stop something”, what was it?
Vote Zuckerman.
People of Vermont need to stop drinking the Democratic Kool aid. Zuckermans comments prove he is not suited to be 2nd in charge. The facts are that on 9/11 the Vt Air Guard was on the front line when our country was being attacked. Yes it is true that they did not have to ” stop anything” but you can rest assured that if there were another threat that day it would have been the air guard not Zuckerman that confronted the threat, and it was the air guard that went over seas to bring those who attacked us to justice. For Zuckerman to belittle their actions and not support the air guard getting new equipment (F35) is not patriotic or economical. So please think things through before you vote, unlike Zuckerman when he speaks. P.S Zuckerman get a hair cut.
Yes, he intended to malign the Guard. That is who he is.
Everyone is arguing did he guard do anything or not, the attacks were over but they patrolled the skies and if you read the history, the VT air guard was tasked with keeping the skies clear where they might have to shoot down any aircraft in the sky. Facing that prospect was something I am sure weighed on the air guard as they performed their mission, certainly not a decision I would like to live with, but instead Zuckerman was leading the charge against them.
