Hillary Clinton’s party Tuesday night in a Manhattan hotel ballroom didn’t only celebrate her thumping win in the New York Democratic presidential primary. It also included criticisms of her vanquished opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Clinton herself was initially gracious in her victory speech. “To all the people who supported Sen. Sanders,” she said, “I believe there is much more that unites us than divides us.”
But this triumphant politician omitted the pro forma congratulations on a race well run that winning candidates typically extend to losers. And Clinton soon segued into a dig at a rival who has clearly rankled her. “Under the bright lights of New York, we have seen it’s not enough to diagnose problems,” she said in an unmistakable reference to Sanders. “You have to solve them.”
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Clinton backer who preceded her to the podium, took a similar shot at the defeated challenger. “In New York,” Cuomo intoned, “we don’t just talk the progressive talk; we walk the progressive walk.”
The evening’s most direct attack on Sanders was delivered by former New York mayor David Dinkins, who is 88. He told a cheering crowd: “The Sanders campaign makes empty promises and calls for a revolution without a plan.”
Some of Clinton’s less-prominent supporters drew more positive contrasts between their candidate and the insurgent. “Bernie’s policies and stands are admirable,” said Jacqueline Stewart, a volunteer for the Clinton campaign. “He’s a concept guy, but I want someone who gets things done.”
Manhattan attorney Noah Mamis also praised Sanders for “keeping Hillary honest and pushing her to the left.” Mamis suggested, however, that Clinton is more likely than Sanders to achieve the goals that he said they share.
Mamis is the brother of Josh Mamis, who worked in the 1980s as editor of the Vermont Vanguard, a forerunner of Seven Days.
Clinton, he added, has been the target of “a lot of really misogynistic attacks over the past decades.”
Volunteer Kathy Green cited Clinton’s gender as an important factor. “I want a woman in the White House — for future generations and for us right now,” Green said. “She’s also more qualified than any guy.”
“I’m with her!” the audience chanted throughout the evening, alternating at times with “Madam President!” The celebrants also joined Clinton in reciting one of the tag lines of her campaign: “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get back up.”
Craig Buckley, a Manhattan resident wearing an “Out for Hillary” T-shirt, dismissed doubts about her credibility. “I trust her completely,” Buckley declared.
But what about her change of positions on same-sex marriage — from opposition to support?
“I don’t view it as changing,” Buckley replied. “I view it as evolving.”

Grumpy Grandpa Sanders has become another Ralph Nader. It is clear at this point that he can’t win. Despite his early promises to focus on issues and avoid negative campaigning, he has turned to highly personal attacks on Mrs Clinton – even going so far to say she’s not qualified to be President. If Grumpy Grandpa stays in the race and continues his personal attacks, it will only help elect a Republican to the office – Just like Ralph Nader did. If he stays in after this point, he’s just stroking his ego at the expense of the country.
He hasn’t mentioned her emails, Benghazi, Bosnia tarmac lies, Wal Mart, Whitewater, Paula Jones, The Clinton Foundation, Panama Papers (to name a few). He did mention the millions of dollars she made for speeches to Wall Street, which seems to be a huge conflict of interest at the least,, so maybe he is dividing the party.
Bernie rails at the system being rigged, rails at greed. So why is it with a salary of $176,000 from his being a Senator, the subsidies they voted themselves, not anyone else- basically a Cadillac plan, why is it he is taking $39,000 in Social Security payments?
Not a Bernie fan by any means; not a libtard, or socialist follower. The fact that he’s taking Social Security payments isn’t a concern to me though. Those aren’t entitlement benefit programs – it’s funded directly from the individuals forced retirement contributions. It’s not taxpayer money he’s receiving – it’s his own money.
Wow, a lot of Sanders bashing here. Clinton is owned by the corporations, including Monsanto, one that particularly bugs me. However, I am more concerned with the $120 million she’s gotten for her campaign by the banksters. It will be payback time if she gets into the White House. Here’s a one-min. clip of a talk she gave at Monsanto in 2014. How much did they pay her, I wonder.

Okay, Seven Days, time to write an article about voter suppression going on. Here’s some research to get you started. I hope you still consider yourselves cutting edge….

https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20160421/… (The Chief Clerk of the Brooklyn Borough Office of the NYC Board of Elections, who was just suspended without pay for purging over 125,000 registered voters from the Brooklyn voting rolls (allegedly because she “skipped a step” in the process… she’s been employed by the Board of Elections for 16 years…), sold a building in 2014 for $6.6 million. The buyer of the building was Holliswood LLC, which is headed by Dana Lowey Luttway, a daughter of U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey. Nita Lowey is a Clinton superdelegate.)
Just one more thing. These voting machines are not allowed in Europe. Research how many people donate to #Bernie. Research how many thousands of people show up at his rallies. Research how many people in cities across this country have marched for Bernie even when he was not present. Then research the same for Hillary. Then look at the differences between exit polls and final tallies. Do you really think Hillary is “winning”?

“Wow, a lot of Sanders bashing here.”
As opposed to the constant Hillary bashing that goes on every day on these pages?
As opposed to the Hillary bashing that you immediately engage in after you typed the above sentence?
You must have skipped “irony day” in school.
There is a lot of Hillary bashing but she really brings that on herself. Look at the scandals Mark Lade lists and those are just a few. Add in all of the lying and topic dodging she has been doing during this campaign and it’s no wonder people simply do not like her as a human being.
“Look at the scandals Mark Lade lists”
She has not been involved in any scandals except in the fevered minds of the haters like yourselves and the rest of the paranoid, misogynistic “Bernie bros.” Innuendoes, false accusations, and general irrational hatred of the vague “establishment” — all arising from the fact that she just happens to be your beloved Bernie’s opponent — do not amount to anything.
The only “scandal” in the Democratic primary is that Bernie isn’t a Democrat but is using the party. The only “scandal” is that all his campaign does is whine about the known rules of a party of which he is not a member, but a crasher. The only “scandal” is that he makes false promises of “free” stuff to his supporters. The only “scandal” is that Bernie’s shocking interview with the NY Daily News — which supported him until the interview — demonstrated that he knows nothing except his 2 talking points and is unqualified to be in charge of the U.S. economy, much less the free world.
If you honestly feel Hillary Clinton was not involved in any shady dealings or scandals or hasn’t lied at all during this campaign then there is no talking sense with you. Clinton’s list of shitty deeds starts way before this campaign against Bernie. There are plenty of reasons to hate Hillary independent of Bernie Sanders.
And yet you haven’t identified a single thing. Ever. Keep believing your own vague conspiracy theories, however. You’re in great company — with the hateful Republicans, who’ve tried for years to “invent” a Bengazi scandal but have failed.
If you are looking to talk sense then you are engaging with the wrong poster, Philo. You already knew that, though.
Tinfoil hat alert @ Lade and Philo.
Hillary was secretly involved in the fall of the Roman Empire, the bubonic plague, the Nazi holocaust, Vietnam, Chernobyl, Fukushima, Deflategate, and the Zika virus.
knowyourass,
Glad to see that you’re finally coming to your senses.
