So I got an email yesterday from Winooski’s A*VISTA asking me to visit a Hamburger Helper website. Apparently the company gives out $15,000 grants to community organizations through their “My Hometown Helper” program. Winooski, my hometown, has applied for a grant to fund a walk-in freezer/refrigerator for the Community Center, a project which is still in the planning stages, but is finally gaining momentum.
Apparently, when they’re evaluating these grant applications, the hamburger people look at how many community members have actually commented in support of the project at the Hamburger Helper website.
In other words, if I help direct more traffic to their website, my little community might get a walk-in freezer.
So, if you feel, like I do, that Winooski deserves — deserves! — to have $15,000 of that meaty money, go on over there and say so. I’m not sure that it will help, but it can’t hurt… though you do have to give the meatmeisters your email address, and agree to their terms of service.
While you’re at it, you can comment on these other Vermont projects, too. Apparently, none of them have yet been funded — not even the grammatically incorrect “Making the Most of I” class in Bellows Falls. Go figure.
