This week in the NOW, we ran an ad for the Mountaintop Film Festival, which happens next weekend at the Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield.
I was excited to see that author Naomi Wolf is coming. She’ll be answering questions following a screening of The End of America next Saturday. I’ve embedded the trailer in this post.
The documentary is based on her book of the same title, which, incidentally, was published by White River Junction-based Chelsea Green Publishing. The book’s subtitle is “Letter to a Young Patriot.” It basically outlines the characteristics of fascist societies, and argues that the U.S. is trending in that direction.
It’s definitely a disturbing argument, though maybe not what people want to hear days before the Obama inauguration. Have we turned a corner? I wonder what Wolf thinks. You can ask her on Saturday, January 17, following a 7 p.m. screening. Click here for the festival schedule.
