“The Tunbridge World’s Fair is in full swing through the weekend,” Gov. Peter Shumlin’s staff tweeted Friday, helpfully including a link to a photo of the gov at last year’s fair (see right).
But don’t think that means Shummy’s at this afternoon’s antique tractor pull.
In fact, the gov is out in Los Angeles at campaign fundraiser, says campaign manager Alex MacLean. Shumlin left for SoCal Thursday evening and will return Saturday; while he’s there, he’ll also appear on “California Edition,” a public television show, to talk health care reform.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that our millionaire Governor, Pete Naked Bear Shumlin, doesn’t have time for debates but does have time to go all the way to Hollywood to fundraise.
And, by the way, why should the Governor of Vermont — which, last I heard, was on the east coast — be seeking funds from California? What business does anyone who doesn’t live in Vermont have trying to influence the Governor’s election here? Why aren’t the Democrats, who control the Governor’s office and both chambers of the Legislature, passing a law to limit contributions to the Vermont gubernatorial election to those who actually live in Vermont? Oh, I forgot, because their hero Shumlin is the aspiring Governor of Hollywood, that’s why.
For the first time, Sutton_Hoo, I agree with you – but only the first paragraph and beginning of the second. Jimmy Douglas had eight years to limit out-of-state contributions and did not; maybe he didn’t read the ‘comment’ you sent?
I’m not sayin’ that Douglas was a saint on campaign finance reform, either.
But I can say this: for the entire 8 years he was in office, Dougles had a hostile, Dem-controlled Legislature. Even if he had wanted to pass such a law, he couldn’t have. Not so Shumlin. He has a Dem-controlled, friendly Legislature. Vermont could pass a law tomorrow that excludes out-of-state campaign contributions for the Governor’s race. But they won’t do it. Why not? Because their man is off in Hollywood courting dollars from Steven Spielberg and Barbara Streisand, and they thinks it’s just wonderful. Frankly, it’s disgusting.
“they thinks it’s just wonderful” – I very much doubt that.
What makes you think that the head of the Vt. Democratic Party, Jake Perkinson, doesn’t think it’s absolutely wonderful that Gov. Slick is out gathering campaign dollars from Hollywood? I’ve neither heard him, nor Shap Smith, nor John Campbell, nor any of Shumlin’s owners at VPIRG utter a single peep to the effect that out-of-staters shouldn’t be contributing to the Vermont gubernatorial campaign.
The Moose is loose.
Silly season indeed. Both candidates are deeply lacking as I see it. I will just vote along party lines on this one I guess. Shumlin takes off for CA, too busy to debate. Huh, well actually, he doesn’t really need to debate too much, Brock buries himself with his own half truths and stupid statements. Shumln doesn’t post his own tweets and isn’t actually in the VT locations suggested by pix. Huh, meanwhile Brock says his health care plan means having doctors not order unnecessary hospital test. Can anyone who has been in the hospital themselves or been there in the company of a sick loved one give me some examples of unnecessary tests that were done? Both guys are dorks.
