Gov. Peter Shumlin plans to take his road show to Iowa this week, campaigning for former secretary of state Hillary Clinton across eastern Iowa on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Vermont Democrat endorsed Clinton last May, electing jeers on social media from supporters of his home-state senator, Bernie Sanders, who is locked in a close race with Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. Sanders campaigned for Shumlin ahead of the governor’s narrow reelection in 2014.
According to the Clinton campaign, Shumlin will visit campaign offices in Burlington, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Grinnell and Newton to meet with supporters and volunteers. He’ll also host an organizing event Wednesday in Keokuk and will speak Thursday evening at the Ankeny Area Democrats’ Winter Banquet in Des Moines.
According to Shumlin spokesman Scott Coriell, the Clinton campaign will foot the bill for the trip.
WCAX-TV first reported the governor’s travel plans Tuesday afternoon. Shumlin’s office typically announces such events in its weekly schedule, which it releases Friday afternoons. This time, it waited until after Shumlin held his last public event prior to the trip before disclosing it.
This isn’t the first time Shumlin has traveled outside Vermont to campaign for Clinton. In August and September, he took part in campaign events in New Hampshire. Shumlin’s also not the first prominent Vermonter to make the trip to the Hawkeye State. In December, former governor Howard Dean campaigned for Clinton in Iowa.

Shumlin campaigning for $Hillary$ is basically the same thing as Shumlin indirectly campaigning for Bernie. Shumlin has no credit.

Then he gives one of the wealthiest emirates, Abu Dhabi, a million dollars toward their business venture here.
Now he flies off to Iowa to stump for Hillary.
Who does he think he’s fooling? He would sell his soul for the right price. Oh wait! He doesn’t have one.

You’re bitter and butthurt cuz BS’ s only senate endorsement is Tom “the traitor” Cotton a REPUBLICAN from Arkansas and only 2 obscure reps. You all realize that DNC rules will give Hillary the nomination even if BS wins all 50 primaries and caucuses. The day Mrs. Clinton conceded to President Obama wasthe day after she got this election’s nomination. Get used to saying #MadamPresident #BSisBS #HILLARY
It still boggles the mind that Shumlin would endorse and support Hillary over Sanders.
Also, NYCWoman: what’s the point of using hashtags in this comment section? I get that the DNC super wants to push Hillary as the only option allowed to Democrats, but if she does get in the rest of the country is going to loudly say “no”. The Republicans can’t stand her, and moderates find her irritating. I’m registered as a Democrat, but I find her flip-flopping and sleazy, underhanded tactics to be appalling. So far her mantra has been that she’s a woman, so I should vote for her. Big friggin’ whoop.
