As Tech Jam is in its 19th year, here are 19 ways to maximize your experience at the upcoming Vermont Tech Jam on Saturday, October 24, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Hula in Burlington.
1. Pre-Register for Tech Jam (as always, it’s FREE.)
2. Book an appointment in advance for a new headshot with Storyworkz, or walk up on the day of while availability lasts.
3. Print copies of your resume in advance to leave behind with recruiters.
4. Practice your pitch: What do you want to make sure exhibitors remember about you?

5. Invite a friend or two to join you. Did we mention that Tech Jam is free?
6. Dress to impress! You don’t need to put on a suit, but don’t wear flip-flops or shorts. Think professional and approachable.
7. Talk to the exhibitors. Most of them are seeking employees and/or interns, too. Look for the “We’re Hiring!” stickers.
8. Say hello to Seven Days writers, editors, designers and salespeople who are staffing the event.
9. Stop by a booth that wasn’t on your list. You never know what companies are looking for.
10. Enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Champlain from Hula’s campus.
11. Take a break, get lunch or grab a quick bite at Preppi Market & Eatery, open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

12. Catch the “Real Things” panel and hear from local companies about their manufacturing roles and what they look for in employees — in The Reef at 11 a.m.
13. Take a tour of Hula (offered at 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.) and see all that this coworking campus has to offer. Meet at the fountain. Consider signing up for a day pass.
14. Take the Targeted Resume’s pre-Jam Boot Camp on Friday, October 16 with Sue Schlom to prep for the day. Then, visit Sue in Sandbar for free resume advice during Tech Jam.
15. Chat up a fellow Jammer! Which booths have you been to that they haven’t? Compare notes on the day.

16. Attend the “Totally Unreal” presentation in The Reef at 1 p.m. with Dartmouth professor Hany Farid, one of the world’s leading experts on deepfakes. Learn what he’s seeing these days and how much AI models have advanced in the last year.
17. Visit FIRST robotics teams in the Isthmus room and find out how your kids can compete or — or how you can volunteer as a mentor.
18. Take the post Jam survey and enter to win a prize. We’re always looking for ways to improve!
19. Pick up the Seven Days Tech Issue on Wednesday, October 21, filled with stories about local tech companies and trends. Help pay for it by becoming a Seven Days Super Reader. You’ll help us continue to host free events and publish an award-winning local newspaper.
