From Haik Bedrosian’s blog Burlington Pol comes this totally unscientific — but still interesting — “straw poll” for the Burlington mayor’s race.

The question was: Who is your choice for mayor? A total of 288 self-selected people have taken the poll so far. Here’s the break-down:

Republican Kurt Wright: 43 percent (125 votes)

Democrat Miro Weinberger: 42 percent (120 votes)

Independent Wanda Hines: 15 percent (43 votes)

Bedrosian emphasizes via email that the poll results are “just a snapshot of where it seemed to be leveling off.” The poll is still open — click here to vote.

Remember that with the repeal of instant runoff voting, Burlington’s next mayor needs only 40 percent plus one of the vote to claim victory. You think Kurt Wright is reading these results, rubbing his hands together and cackling “Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha!”?

Got something to say?

  1. It wouldn’t surprise me if Wright would become mayor. First of all, people tend to vote for the name they have heard before. Secondly, a republican mayor would reflect conservative tendencies in Burlington away from being a cool and progressive town toward being more concerned with family values and catering to big money.

  2. Giving these kinds of “polls” any ink is not only inappropriate, it is downright stupid.  If this is the kind of journalism we can expect from Andy Bromage, I suggest we all tune out quickly.

  3. Wow, now that’s intrepid reporting.  Following in the footsteps of Shay and copying and pasting your work.  And an unscientific poll, no less.

  4. No one is going to vote progressive, and the dems are too close to being progressives for comfort.  Alas we get Kurt, but hey…still better then the alternatives.
