A cascade of revelations about a meeting between President Donald Trump’s son and a Kremlin-connected lawyer has drawn the attention of Vermont’s congressional delegation. But despite the rush of new developments, the delegation’s three members appear to be reacting cautiously.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Congressman Peter Welch (D-Vt.) both called for further investigation Tuesday. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has refused Seven Days‘ interview requests for more than 26 months, did not respond to a request for comment.
The New York Times has reported in recent days that the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and other top advisers met with a Russian attorney in June 2016 to discuss information that could damage Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. On Tuesday, the Times published emails suggesting that Trump Jr. knew the information came from Russian officials and was comfortable with that.
Leahy spokesperson David Carle said Vermont’s senior senator “believes that Donald Jr.’s meeting raises exceedingly serious and troubling issues.” He did not go as far as Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Clinton’s 2016 running mate, who called Trump Jr.’s actions “beyond obstruction of justice” and “potentially treason.”
“[Leahy] continues to believe that it’s crucially important to gather all the facts … so determinations can be made about whether and what crimes were committed,” Carle said.
Leahy called on Trump Jr. to appear soon before the Senate Judiciary Committee, on which the Vermonter serves. Carle said the issue is also expected to come up during the committee’s confirmation hearing Wednesday for Christopher Wray, the president’s nominee for FBI director.
Welch had a similar response. According to spokesperson Kate Hamilton, he expects special counsel Robert Mueller to probe the matter. Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in May to investigate ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.
“[Welch] believes we should follow the facts uncovered by this investigation wherever they lead,” Hamilton said.

Another small “nothing burger” for the morally bankrupt Democrats. The meeting was between the lawyer and Trump Jr. to review information, but none was forthcoming and no followup meetings occurred. Trump Jr. made all the emails available. Meanwhile the stench from Hillary, Podesta, Comey, McCabe, and the liberal media, etc. continues to suffocate truth under piles of corruption.
How is this any different than Team Clinton purchasing the Kremlin-fed ‘Golden Showers Trump Dossier’ information from Russian backed operatives and feeding that salacious info to the Fake News Media?
The disinformation in the ‘Trump Dossier’ came in the form of a Russian-fed dossier written by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele. Steele was paid by the Democrat-funded opposition research firm Fusion GPS with money from a Hillary Clinton backer. Fusion GPS then distributed the dossier among Democrats and journalists. The information then somehow fell into the hands of the FBI, which used it in part to investigate Trump and his campaign aides.
When Democrats do it it is called ‘Political Opposition Research’, no different than what occurred here in Vermont when the ‘researchers’ came looking for dirt on Bernie; right down to trying to approach and question his old girlfriend he had his son out of wedlock with.
This Trump collusion story is beginning to unravel this morning as there are now published photos in the News of the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, sitting with Obamas Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, during a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing in Washington DC just 8 days after cold-contacting Trump Jr. in Trump Tower.
Natalia Veselnitskaya has also been connected to Fusion GPS, the DNC opposition research firm that produced the fraudulent and discredited ‘Golden Showers’ Dossier that I mentioned in my last post.
This looks like nothing more than yet another bungled attempted hit on Trump by the DNC and their complicit Fake News Media
Hillary actually wrote those emails and on a personal email server. Can’t blame the Russians for that.
The hurt feelings over Bernie not liking your publication are petty.
I see people saying that Trump campaign officials knowingly attended a meeting with a Russian government contact to get help with their election campaign from the Russian government is not evidence of collusion with Russia because the help on offer at this particular meeting was supposedly not useful.
Let’s suppose for the sake of argument that these folks have any willingness to water down their faith in the Dear Leader with some critical thinking. They might reflect on the fact that as a legal defence this is about as plausible as saying “Your Honor, I did break into the house but soon found there was nothing worth stealing. This charge is a nothingburger!”
Also, while it’s not illegal to conduct opposition research generally, it certainly is illegal to do so in collaboration with a foreign government seeking to meddle in the election.
The Democrats have no platform to improve the lives of everyday Americans so instead they make up lie after lie or blow normal political practices that are preformed by both parties way out of proportion. That is why they keep losing. Instead of working to better the lives of their constituents by putting aside pardisin politics and working with folks from the other side all they can do is waste time and money trying to bring Trump down. This mindset is both detrimental to the country and their party. It is sad to watch as they transform from a party that once stood for the people turn into a party that only represents the elite ruling class. And what is sadder is that so many Americans have been brainwashed into thinking that it is ok. My heart cries for America.
It is amusing to me how all the Trumpsters are now taking Junior’s word that nothing was transmitted even though he has effectively admitted that he has been lying for over a year about contacts with the Russians. So he somehow became credible again?
Two or three days after this meeting, Trump Sr. gloated to one of his many audiences that he would soon have more information about Clinton. Coincidence? Then as he got closer to the nomination, he called for Russia’s “help” in getting Clinton. When Wikileaks came out with the info from the Russian hackers, he indicated that this was what he had meant. The Russians did not leak the hack until it was fairly certain that Trump would be the nominee sometime “later in the summer,” as Junior so casually put it. This was always and only a hack to benefit Trump, not one of the other clowns in the Republican Clown Car.
Nobody cares a crap what the three stooges think about Donald Trump Jr…….where were they when Hillary Clinton deleted 33,000 emails? I want these guys to have to work for the Entire summer!!!!
