Brian Wilson has canceled his upcoming appearance at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The 76-year-old cofounder of the Beach Boys announced via his website and social media that he is postponing his summer tour. Wilson was set to close out the 10-day festival on Sunday, June 9, at the Flynn MainStage.
In his message to fans, Wilson writes, “It is no secret I have been living with mental illness for many decades … As you may know, in the last year or so I’ve had three surgeries on my back … After my last surgery I started feeling strange and it’s been pretty scary for a while. I was not feeling like myself. Mentally insecure is how I’d describe it … I’m looking forward to my recovery and seeing everyone later this year.”

Wilson’s cancelation is the second high-profile BDJF event to be canceled this week. St. Paul & the Broken Bones were set to perform Thursday, June 6, at Burlington’s Waterfront Park, but announced earlier this week they would not perform. Support acts Tank and the Bangas as well as locals smalltalker will still appear as scheduled at that event.

Maybe a sign that the Jazz Fest organizers should be looking to book headliners that are on the rise and currently putting out music…?
…..Bring back the “Blues Festival” ….blues musicians perform no matter what shape they’re in. …..and hey, one more suggestion ……seeing that it rains EVERY YEAR the first week in june…..maybe bump it up to the third week?!?
How about bringing Samantha Fish to Grand Point North.
