Want to own a kitchen shop? Kiss the Cook, a staple of Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace for 35 years, is seeking a new owner.
The well-stocked store, which sells cookware, cutlery, specialty foods and other must-have cooking supplies, was founded by Marie Bouffard and Mike Soulia in the early 1990s. Current owner Luke and Ashley Wight purchased the biz in 2014 and moved it down the block to 102 Church Street in June 2024.
Luke got his teaching license a couple of years ago and started teaching business classes part time at Champlain Valley Union High School last year.
“I found it really fulfilling,” he said. Once Kiss the Cook is “in the right hands,” he said, he plans to teach full time.
An advertisement in Seven Days earlier this month said the shop “is profitable and provides a wonderful lifestyle, supported by longstanding loyal customers.” The ad also cited potential for growth with nationwide online sales.
“I’ve loved running this business, and I’m really proud of it,” Luke said. “We’re just looking for new caretakers for it.”

In Stowe, sisters Danielle and Katie Nichols have announced that they’re closing the Cork Market at 539 Moscow Road. Cork Restaurant and the newer Cork Market & the Candy Castle, both of which are right downtown, will remain open.
Cork Market on Moscow opened in December 2023. It became a go-to spot for natural wine, local beer and gourmet provisions, serving a different clientele from the Nicholses’ other Stowe spots.
The shop’s last day is Friday, July 31. In the meantime, a closing sale offers pantry staples and other market items at half price.
