You no longer have to wait until summertime to enjoy a Gondolas smash burger. As of early December, the folks behind the seasonal Morristown snack shack are slinging all year long at Gondolas Downtown. The original snack bar, five miles away, will continue to open as usual from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The new restaurant at 28 Portland Street in Morrisville offers smash burgers with Cabot Creamery cheddar, hand-cut beef-tallow fries, poutine with turkey gravy, specialty coffees and maple milkshakes made with a special blend from Kingdom Creamery of Vermont, owners Louis Ferris III and Haley Haman told Seven Days. Service is takeout only for now, but they plan to add limited seating and online ordering soon.
Customers had been asking for year-round service since Gondolas opened in June 2024, said Ferris, 29. But the former Mountain View Snack Bar isn’t winterized.
“When we found this spot right in the middle of the village, we knew we wanted to bring a little more energy to this corridor,” he continued.
The downtown location wasn’t previously a restaurant, though it has a lot of history, said Haman, 30, as the former Starfire Jewelry store.
“Now we’re sparkling down here, and we hope this is the next landmark people remember,” she said.
Gondolas Downtown offers a streamlined menu compared with the snack shack. No creemees are served, but maple shakes are constantly churning, with optional Oreo cookies and chocolate or strawberry syrup mixed in. Customers can also add a dollop of maple shake to their cold-brew coffee, Haman said.
