David H. Vilord, 83, passed away with his wife, Suzanne, and children, Christine and David L., at his bedside.

Born on January 27, 1943, he was the fifth child of Charles and Evelyn Vilord in Suffern, N.Y. Dave loved his large extended Italian family and enjoyed many gatherings and happy memories. His family owned a restaurant in Suffern called the Eureka House. Dave started his career in hospitality, then he planned to join the family business, but his father’s untimely death changed that plan.

In 1962 Dave married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne. Together they enjoyed 63-plus years of marriage and raised two children, Christine Lacey of Burlington, Vt., and David Lawrence Vilord of Morrisville, Vt.

Dave and Sue moved to Vermont in the early 1970s and enjoyed many years of life, friends and the changing seasons in northern Vermont. Dave’s work life was varied and interesting, from salesman to restaurant owner (Taylords Tavern) to housekeeping supervisor at Wake Robin and Trapp Family Lodge. He even worked at the Lamoille Valley Railroad for a time.

He is survived by his dear wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Christine Lacey, and her partner, Rodger Morcroft; his son, David L., and his wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Alicia Goodkind and husband Eathan, Erica Lacey, and Alexander Vilord and wife Chelsea; and five great-grandchildren, Piper and Violet Goodkind, Madison and Braden Rich, and Fletcher Vilord.

After Dave retired, he and Sue moved to Florida and became residents there. Dave had had enough of shoveling. They came north each year to enjoy family and the beautiful summer season in Vermont.

There will be a graveside service for family at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Greensboro Bend, Vt. There will also be a Celebration of Life on September 20, 2026, 1 to 4 p.m., at the Waterville Town Hall. Please come and raise a glass and share stories and memories. Please visit dgfunerals.com to share online condolences and memories of David with his family.

He will always be remembered as a loving person, husband, dad, popi and friend. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or by planting a tree.
