Millie Boyd went to the arms of her Mother God on September 26, 2026.
She was born in St. Albans, Vt., on February 15, 1943, to Roly and Edna Bushey.
Millie graduated from Holy Angels Elementary School in 1956; Bellows Free Academy, Class of ’60; and the Fanny Allen Memorial School of Nursing in 1963. For many years she found reward in nursing at Kerbs Memorial Hospital, now known as Northwestern Medical Center, retiring in 1987. From then on, Millie enjoyed working in numerous and varied environments in Burlington, Essex Junction, Hinesburg and St. Albans.
From 1964 to 1982, Millie was married to Alan McFeeters, until they parted ways. They lived in their big old house on Messenger Street in St. Albans, where they raised their three lovely daughters, Melissa, Karen and Sarah.
In 1988, Millie graduated from Trinity College in Burlington, fulfilling her dream of finishing college. She was particularly proud that she and her three daughters all attended college full time at the same time, graduating in birth order.
For many years Millie enjoyed singing classical a cappella music with Gigi Scriggins’ Morning Glory Singers and, later, the Side Effects barbershop quartet. They had great fun performing for Cardiac Capers, a hospital benefit show, and at other venues in Franklin County.
In 1990 she met Will Boyd, who became her dearest friend. Millie loved going to the ocean with Will, flying kites and taking long walks by the sea under the full moon. They married in a little church hall in Hinesburg in 1992.
Millie was an avid reader and enjoyed working at her computer. Her home was her haven and also her hobby; she spent countless hours redecorating and experimenting with color in her real house and in her two dollhouses. Times spent with her grandchildren, especially on “Mim Days,” were always a special joy.
In her later years, Millie discovered a passion for watercolor painting. She belonged to numerous artists’ groups, especially enjoying painting and learning with the “Tuesday morning gals.” She exhibited her work in Franklin and Chittenden counties.
Millie was happy, joyous and free, living simply and serenely one day at a time.
Millie is survived by her dear spouse, Will; and her beloved daughters, Melissa Morrison (partner Anthony O’Regan) of Norwood, Mass.; Karen McFeeters Leary (husband Kevin) of Milton, Vt.; and Sarah McFeeters Allerton (husband David) of St. Albans, Vt. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Thomas Allerton (fiancé Brenley Santilli), Ellen Allerton, Joshua Morrison and Daniel Morrison. They were immeasurably dear to “Mim’s” heart.
She is also survived by her brother Tom Bushey (wife Sandi), sister-in-law Linda Bushey, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves many dear women friends who sang, painted and journeyed with her over the years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roly and Edna Bushey, and her brother Ken Bushey.
In lieu of contributions, Millie wished that everyone would do something nice for someone else and not tell them about it.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Northwestern Medical Center and Franklin County Rehab Center for their kindness and compassionate care during Millie’s final days.
Calling hours on Sunday, October 4, 2026, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., and a memorial service at 4 p.m., will be held at Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. Light refreshments will follow.
