Orleans County Republican Party chair Chet Greenwood denied writing a tweet posted to his account that suggested one of the women accusing U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault was instead recalling a “sexual fantasy.”
Greenwood said he doesn’t know how the tweet appeared on his account but confirmed that he deleted it.
“I don’t think I did that,” Greenwood said Monday. “I don’t know how that got there. And I saw that and I deleted it. I don’t know. I can’t say how it got there. I deleted it.”
Christine Blasey Ford, a professor at Palo Alto University in Northern California, has said that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a suburban Maryland party when she was 15 and Kavanaugh was 17.
Greenwood — or some unknown person using his account — was commenting on a post from conservative news site the Daily Caller, which pointed out that Ford had not provided many details about the alleged assault.
“I think Christine was having a sexual fantasy,” Greenwood’s full tweet read.
Reached by phone Monday, Greenwood said someone called him about the tweet Sunday afternoon and he deleted it shortly afterward.
“It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to delete a tweet because I’ve never done it before,” said Greenwood, who added that he’d changed his account password after the incident.
Greenwood told Seven Days that he feels “bad for Christine Ford for holding this back for so many years.” The GOP county chair went on to accuse Senate Democrats of bringing up Ford’s allegations at a politically convenient time meant to disrupt Kavanaugh’s confirmation process.
“[T]he Democrats held this information three or four months,” Greenwood said of Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and other Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee. “If they were concerned, they should have released the information.”
Ford is scheduled to testify Thursday before the Judiciary Committee.

Man, the Republicans are really digging themselves into the ground.
I am so glad that women today feel empowered to speak out about these issues! I was a victim of a date rape (apparently drugged) but blamed myself, thinking “how stupid was I to go to this guy’s place to get his help with a writing project??” This was in 1975; I was a sophomore in college and in South Carolina. I got pregnant from the assault (yes, it WAS his) and had an abortion, thank you, Roe v Wade. I never said anything to anyone about it, but I did drop out of the creative writing class so I would never have to see him again. Honestly, in that era, there was no other option.
Why is it, one wonders, that over 90% of Twitter hijackings happen to right-wing Republicans who drink a lot of alcohol?
Greenwood is a liar! Plain and simple! The President he supports is the Liar in Chief!

I remember exactly what happened in 1972 when I was riding an overnight train, and woke up to find a strange man in the seat next to me with his hand in my crotch. I know I was I was travelling from Munich to Paris, but I can’t tell you the train number or the day of the week. But it happened. In 1976 I was hitchhiking with my sister from Indianapolis to Bloomington in broad daylight, when the driver who stopped for us grabbed my breast as I was leaving his truck and said something so vile I won’t repeat it here. Can’t tell you the day of the week or where he dropped us off, but it happened. You don’t forget. You never forget. And my experiences are nothing like what Dr. Ford experienced. Yes, #MeToo and yes, #BelieveSurvivors
Mr. Greenwood’s story is laughable, especially given how much of a Trump supporter he’s been on the pages of VT Digger. It’s entirely consistent with his political outlook.
In all fairness… Who remembers what was said or allegedly done at a teen party some 20-30+ years ago. C’mon, this is really stretchingggg.
And btw, what’s a 15 year old girl or boy doing at a party with 17 yr. olds?
So, he’s doubting Dr. Ford’s memory for lack of unimportant details of 33 years ago.
But can’t remember whether he posted a vile sick disgusting tweet YESTERDAY.
