Sun-starved, shivering Vermonters will again be able to fly nonstop to Florida from Burlington International Airport starting February 19. That’s when Allegiant Air plans to inaugurate twice-a-week service (Wednesday and Saturday) between BTV and Orlando’s Sanford International Airport.

Yellow, orange and blue balloons festooned the airport mezzanine on Tuesday as Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger announced the arrival of Allegiant. The Las Vegas-based carrier, which bills itself as a low-cost alternative for leisure fliers, is offering introductory fares from Burlington to Orlando for as little as $67 each way.

  1. Unfortunately, the best way to save money on your trip is to rent a car to Boston and fly out of Logan.

  2. this is great but I wish they had Monday – Friday flights, or Monday – Saturday, although my Disney days are over, I go there for business on occasion, hopefully this will grow and they add a few more flights, bring it on Southwest ….As for driving to Boston, no way , time is money and 4 hours each way, not for me

  3. Tried to fly on Allegiant out of Plattsburgh when they began there. Never ever ever ever again. Ever. I’ve had great experiences with Jet Blue, good and not so good with the big carriers, and nothing ever approached the poor customer service of Allegiant. And they ain’t low cost when you add it all up. And beware if something goes wrong on a carrier that flies only two days a week, and isn’t committed to good customer service.
