Rumors have been swirling for a couple of days now that VT’s Phinest would be throwing an Irene benefit gig within the next week or so, somewhere in the state. Well, guess what? According to a press release just sent out by Higher Ground Presents, it’s on. The band will play the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction on Wednesday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the show and mechandise sales will benefit the band’s own charitable fin, er, arm, the Waterwheel Foundation, as well as the Vermont Community Foundation, in a larger effort to aid the state’s ongoing flood recovery efforts.

Tickets are $75 for general admission, and $250 for the “Friend of Waterwheel” package which includes a ticket, a sweet parking spot, a poster and beer, apparently. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, September 10, at 10 a.m. and should be sold out by roughly 10:02 a.m.

Anyway, you can read the entire press release below. And thanks, boys, for lending a hand.

  1. Just wondering if Phish that floundered in the Northeastern mud a few years back, ever made good to those ticket purchasers that were stuck on I91 and not able to get to the muddied concerto. Just wondering, anybody know?Or is this a way to enlighten their drug driven career, by making it look like they really care?

  2. First Shumlin goes out to make some flood victims feel good, and he’s accused of being a shameless campaigner. Now Phish plays a show that could raise as much as a million dollars for flood relief, and they’re accused of having false intentions. Jeez. Why don’t reasonable people ever comment on newspaper websites?I don’t like their music, but Phish should be commended for this. It’s nice to see famous people using their celebrity to produce some tangible good.

  3. *sigh* Yes, Richard, anyone who was unable to get to the Coventry show was offered a refund for full face value plus all convenience/service fees. Now please go crawl back into your hater-hole and don’t come out until one of your favorite bands does something this selfless to help out a community in need.

  4. It’s good to know that this crisis has resulted in no shortage of bile. Sheesh.Thank you Phish, not bad for a bunch of dirty hippies.

  5. Regardless if we like Phish and the music they make – Regardless if we approve of the scene at their concerts -Regardless if we respect their place in society…The Phish community, the band themselves and as individuals, their crew, and organization many of whom live beside us as neighbors in Vermont- are actually doing SOMETHING to help our devastated communities and residents who desperately need this help.. if nothing else.. a good deed – does this make you want to do something too?..it does for me.

  6. “does this make you want to do something too?..it does for me.”You had to wait for four rich guys to announce that they were going to dick around on guitars* for a few hours before you wanted to do something?Indeed it is nice of the phish boys to play one of their music concerts; a series of them or PPV webcast would be even better. They have more leverage to bring in $ than just about anyone who would have a reason to care.*Credit to David Cross

  7. Geez. Phish, Waterwheel, and all those involved ARE WORKING FOR FREE to put this all together and ALL the money is going to help Vermont. Whoever you are should be thrilled with this. They will raise alot of money for Vermont and we need it. I lost everything in the recent flood so its personal.Thank you Phish, Waterwheel, Higher Ground, and everyone else involved, including clean-up volunteers, and all who have put their time in. I feel blessed to live in this state. Those of you who want to complain, leave.

  8. Going to Phish? Please plan your route and arrive early. CV Expo is on Rte 15 in Essex Junction, and is known for traffic problems and congestion. If coming from I89 South, try using Exit 11 and Rte 117 to Essex Junction (Not Exit 12 and Rt 2A – as Rt 2A suffers extreme congestion in the afternoons). Many will also try Exit 15 onto Rte 15 East (4 miles to Expo). From the north, I89 Exit 17 to Rte 7 South, turn left on Rt 2A to Essex. (There is no exit 15 in the south-bound lane).Pass it along to your out-of-town friends. Good luck getting tix.
