The Vermont Department of Health said Sunday that it has identified three more cases of the coronavirus within the last 24 hours — all of which involve patients from other states.

The announcement brings the state’s total to eight confirmed cases so far — half of which involve non-Vermont residents, the health department said in a press release. 

One patient was a man in his seventies from Berkshire County in Massachusetts. He was being treated at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Another patient was a man in his fifties from Suffolk County in Massachusetts. He was self-isolating at his Vermont home in Windsor County.

The third case was a woman in her twenties from Kings County in New York. She was self-isolating at her family home in Chittenden County.

Sunday’s announcement comes a day after three other cases were announced, one of which involved a New York man who had traveled to his second home in Vermont “wanting to escape the virus” but began showing symptoms within 24 hours, according to Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine.

  2. What exactly is the point of noting that 50% of known cases are from out of state? Do you want to engender a
    “we/they” mentality? Are all those not us, “other”? If there is some other reason for your reportorial slant, then state so. This is disgraceful reporting.

  3. We do not have large hospitals. They are built to care for a capacity based on our population. People should absolutely remain in their own states and be treated there.

  4. Please continue to report all the facts that you know about this situation. Knowing that the newly reported cases are from out of state informs us of the health of the local population. I expect, and hope, that new VT cases will be from NY or wherever. When they are people who live here and have not been anywhere else that I will know that we are truly in an epidemic locally.
