Lawrence John Walsh Jr., born on February 25, 1943, in San Diego, Calif., passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. He was the son of L. J. Walsh Sr. and Ruth McAuliffe. The family moved to Vermont in 1946. Larry grew up in Burlington and went to Rice Memorial High School and Champlain College. He married his college sweetheart, Constance Szymanski, in 1967. They made their home in Burlington for over 50 years until a move to West Virginia to be near their daughter and family.

After college Larry went to work for the company his grandfather, Patrick McAuliffe, founded with his brothers — the McAuliffe Paper Company. He worked mainly in the company’s wholesale/commodities area in sales, and for years was sales manager, covering a wide territory for the company. His coworkers (including his cousins) valued his leadership, his good humor, his knack for keeping customers happy and his dedication to the company. In addition to running the company, he also served on the boards of many local institutions, including Champlain College and the Ethan Allen Club. When he wasn’t working, Larry could be found out on Lake Champlain. He spent a lot of his time boating with Connie and other family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents and son, Brett McAuliffe Walsh. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his daughter, Beth, and husband Geoff Brown, and their four children, granddaughter Molly Shea and grandsons Patrick Brett, Kyle Matthew and Jake McAuliffe Brown. He is also survived by several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 5, 2026, at 10 at Christ the King, with burial following at Resurrection Park in South Burlington, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central Catholic High School, 75 14th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
