Mule Bar is getting bigger. The Winooski bar, a craft beer and cocktail staple at 38 Main Street since 2013, has taken over the former Our House Bistro space next door in a move that will double its capacity.
Co-owner and general manager Troy Levy said the Mule Bar team had been eyeing the expansion for “years and years” and jumped on the opportunity when Our House closed in November.
They’ve used the sidewalk patio in front of 36 Main Street all season, Levy said, and indoor work started in June — first connecting the two kitchens and now focused on improving the bathroom area. Levy expects to combine the two storefronts this fall, closing for just a day or two to open up the wall.
Mule Bar as people know it will stay the same, Levy said, serving its pub-food offerings of burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads and wings on the bar side. The newly renovated space will be a dining room with table service, adding larger plates such as steak, pasta and fish to the Thursday-through-Saturday dinner menu once it opens.
“We’ve tried to be really good bar food, and now we’re going to be really good restaurant food,” Levy said.
This winter, Mule Bar will launch weekend brunch. The space will also have more TVs for sports and host live music, private events and pop-ups. Those pop-ups will start before the new dining room opens, Levy said, though the schedule is TBD.
“We’ve been listening to what people have been asking for,” Levy said, “and we’re just trying to be here for everybody in the community, whatever they’re looking for, anytime.”
