Progressive State Rep. David Zuckerman(P-Burlington) is reaching out to Democrats as he contemplates a runfor lieutenant governor.

One option Zuckerman is entertaining is running in the Democratic primary, in an attempt to garner the backing of both Democrats and his own Progressives. A similar approach was used, successfully, by former Burlington City Councilor Tim Ashe.

Ashe, a Progressive, ran in the Democratic Primary in 2008 for state senate in Chittenden County and won. He later won in the general election and now sports a “D/P” after his name.

On Monday, Zuckerman will meet with the Washington County Democratic Committee to talk about the common political ground shared by the two parties, as well as his possible run in the Democratic primary.

“Before jumping in, I feel it’simportant to discuss the issues and challenges that face our state. Because part of my considerations include running in the DemocraticParty primary, I feel it is important to reach out to the variouscounty members to see what the reception is like,” said Zuckerman. “This is all part ofthe bridge building process, we will see where it goes from there.”

Jack McCullough, chairman of the Washington County Democrats, confirmed Zuckerman’s appearance and said he welcomes the dialogue.

  1. It at this time would be a good idea for Rep. Zuckerman to distance himself as far away from Bob Kiss as possible. This could have an up effect on his political career.

  2. “Progressive State Rep. David Zuckerman (P-Burlington) is reaching out to Democrats as he contemplates a run for lieutenant governor.”From that common ground could come a great campaign, if we put aside some of the party fiefdoms and focus on what is important. By reaching out to have these discussions, I can better discover to what extent that common ground exists,” Zuckerman added.”This was as predictable as the sunrise.Sorry, the guy is a supreme hypocrite. He has had absolutely nothing but disparaging words for Vt. Democrats for years. I don’t know why they’d even give him the time of day.Of course, he’s going to respond to post this by saying we’ve had our differences in the past but we should let bygones be bygones. That sure is convenient of course for Dave. Bygones are never bygones when the Dems have the nerve to do something he doesn’t like — like run a candidate (Keesha Ram) in “his” state rep. district. But now it’ll be time to let bygones be bygones when he wants Dem. support.

  3. Mark Snelling comes along and says “I’m your candidate”. Good of you to show up Mark. Nice touch also on presenting your father’s award to Brian last week. The 500 Republicans there that night finally know what you look like. Somebody get Patti Komline to step up. At least she has a record. Give us a choice we can actually stand tall behind.
