I had two co-workers from school ask my advice about which first guns to purchase this week. We are making plans to shoot 4-5 models at my house for safety training. This is a sane response when we all know the government can not protect us when our very small police force gets stretched thin.
It's not just frustration that pushes forward an agenda of non-compliance. The rights of individuals versus the rights of an intrusive state will not be tolerated by many gun owners. Ultimately, making something illegal that is easily obtained or manufactured is asking for a show-down with dangerous consequences for the enforcers.
The legislators are passing laws they can not enforce. How many bump stocks were turned in, for example? How many magazines can my neighbors purchase in Maine and New Hampshire of any capacity? The legislative bans have no impact on the actual shooters, other than inconvenience.
And ultimately, since we know more people are killed with hammers in the US than rifles every year, this is an issue that pretends to address the fears and concerns of a liberal majority while making no one safer.
Doubters be assured: Del Pozo's implied diagnosis is highly probable. His New York-style vision of gun control in Vermont is yet another example of how he has had horrible judgement and should have a multitude of regrets. Unfortunately, he will not regain any sensibilities in the future.
TJ, the anti-gun AG, is fine with authoritarian use of force, just not for the public who is supposed to be served and protected from excessive violence.
I read that piece good and hard to see where the author, Brouwer, found one coyote hunter to interview. Lazy and slanted reporting has become the expectation of 7-Days readers whenever hunting is the topic. Perhaps the sad part is that most Chittenden County writers like Brouwer don't even know any real hunters-- or Vermonters.
How many days does it take for an assault charge against a police officer to get normally filed in court vs when a police officer assaults another citizen? 9 months? A year?? Double standards ?
Re: “Amid Coronavirus, Business Is Booming for Vermont Gun Stores”
What is this comment about, sir? Your opinions can't be held back, eh?
"few other industries have regularly sought to capitalize off fear like the gun industry and its biggest advocate, the National Rifle Association. "
Journalism? Weak at best.
