'Bernie Sanderswitzky' Steals the Show on 'Saturday Night Live'

Posted By on Sun, Feb 7, 2016 at 12:35 PM

It's hard to upstage Larry David, but Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) may have pulled it off this weekend on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

The Democratic presidential candidate took a brief break from the campaign trail Saturday to appear with David, who was guest-hosting the program. The "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator drew rave reviews last fall for his spot-on impression of the curmudgeonly candidate.

Sanders starred in just one sketch, but it was pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good. Here it is:

Earlier in the show, David appeared as Sanders in a "Curb"-style digital short called, "Bern Your Enthusiasm." Though the candidate himself was absent from the sketch, David more than filled his shoes.

You can watch that here:

Sanders showed up twice more: accompanying David as he introduced musical act The 1975 and as the credits rolled at the end of the show.

The Sanders campaign tried to make the most of Sanders' appearance, tweeting up a storm about it and calling for more "vacuum pennies."

So was it worth leaving New Hampshire three days before the state's all-important primary election? You better believe it.
