With only two hours remaining until polls closed, Democrat Deb Markowitz swung by Edmunds Middle School in Burlington in search of every last vote in the hotly-contested five-way primary for governor.
The secretary of state ended up talking more with reporters and poll workers than with the few voters that shuffled by. Markowitz wouldn't predict a finishing order but predicted her considerable field operation would propel her to victory.
With experts predicting stronger-than-expected showings by Democratic candidates Peter Shumlin and Matt Dunne, Markowitz continued to argue that her support in Vermont is vast, even if it's not "quantifiable." (See video above.)
Speaking with reporters outside the school, a confident but relaxed looking Markowitz was eager to talk about the next phase of the campaign — running a general election campaign against Republican candidate Brian Dubie, the popular lieutenant governor, who had no primary opponent.
