It's always exciting when a restaurant from a town that hasn't participated before joins Restaurant Week. This year, the thrill is tripled with three restaurants from Newport.
The Northeast Kingdom's international gateway has plenty to attract diners from throughout the state. With stunning lake views, the East Side Restaurant is serving up a $10 lunch deal that includes Gorgonzola steak salad, panini or spinach ravioli with free drink and dessert. At dinner, look for fried cheese curds and baked oysters.
Lago Trattoria is serving up four courses for $35. Luxury items include fresh seafood cakes, housemade ravioli and steak au poivre.
Eclectic Le Belvédère has many options for each course. Start with diver scallops in maple-bourbon sauce or veal stroganoff. Entrées include filet mignon, a duo of fish in pink-grapefruit-champagne cream and canneloni filled with local venison. Don't fill up. There's still chocolate lava cake and bread pudding.
