Mr. Earl Thomas Hazelton, age 99 years, a longtime resident of this area died early Monday evening August 19, 2013, at the Northwestern Medical Center.
Born in Canaan, NH on June 13, 1914, he was the son of the late Earl and Mamie (Bill) Hazelton. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the World War II Era and was a longtime associate of Burlington Grocery. He was married to the former Arlene Rice of Highgate Springs who predeceased him in 1997.
Earl will be remembered as an accomplished baseball player and in his early years pitched in the minor leagues for the Boston Red Sox as well as for various local town teams. He was also a member of the Swanton First Congregational and New Wine Fellowship Churches.
He leaves many nieces and nephews including locally, Gary and Debra Rice of Swanton, Terry and Juliette Rice of Highgate Springs and Karen and Colin Conger of Georgia as well as, Bill, Bob, Linda, Peggy, Bernie, Donald, Cindy and Fran all from nearby states.
Besides his wife Arlene Earl was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Christina and Irene Richardson; two brothers, Donald and Lester Hazelton and a nephew Dick Hazelton.
At his request there will be no calling hours and a private family graveside service with interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery.
