Obituary: Francisco Garcia Cavazos

Francisco Garcia Cavazos, 83, former town clerk of Swanton, Vermont, died October 21, 2015 in the Cuba (NY) Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Lyford, Texas, December 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Manuel F. and Estefana G. Cavazos. On June 16, 1955 he married Dorcas Leavitt who predeceased him on June 9, 2004.

Frank served as a medical administrator in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1971. Following military service he worked as supervisor of medical records at Kerbs Memorial Hospital. In 1977 he was elected Swanton Town Clerk, a position he retained until his retirement in 1994. He and his wife relocated to Cuba, New York in 1997.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. He was also an avid reader. Frank loved politics and kept up with the latest political news right up to the time he died. He took pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Francisco leaves one daughter, Cathy Wells, and her husband, Mansel, of Cuba, New York. He also leaves two sons, Robert G. Cavazos of Colchester, Vermont and John M. Cavazos of Jacksonville, Florida. Also surviving are two brothers, Victor G. Cavazos of El Centro, California and Manuel Cavazos, Jr. of Raymondville, Texas and one sister, Maria M. Cavazos of Denton, Texas. He was predeceased by a brother Jose Louis Cavazos in 1984. In addition, he leaves five grandchildren and three great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Frank’s son-in-law, The Reverend Mansel Wells, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cavazos family lot in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, October 24, 2015 from Noon to 2 p.m.
