Obituary: Robert J. Penders

Robert J. Penders, 93 of. South Burlington, died on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

He was born in Burlington on March 13, 1922, the son of John and Catherine (Murray) Penders.

During World War II, Bob served in the US Army and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, retiring from the Air Force after 20 years of service. On Feb. 5, 1955, he married Eleanor M. Brown in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mrs. Penders predeceased him on Feb. 7, 2009.

Bob retired from Security at General Electric Co. in April 1984, after 17 years of service. He was an active member of St. John Vianney parish where he was an Altar Server for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th degree, Eagle's club, VFW, and American Legion. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Rocky Ridge Golf Club where he was a starter for many years.

Mr. Penders is survived by his sisters-in-law, Louise Penders and Shirley Thayer and many nieces, nephews and close friends of which include Margaret Poirier and family, Deacon Joe and Shirley Lane and the Michaud family. He was also predeceased by his parents, sister Shirley Duhaime and her husband, Andrew, his sister Joyce Bouchard and her husband, Emerson and his brother, John Penders and by his sister Elaine Penders,

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on S aturday, November 21, 2015 at 11:00 am in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the VT Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495. There will be no visiting hours.
