Obituary: Therese “Terri” LaRocque

Therese “Terri” LaRocque age 88, died early Wednesday morning, July 22, 2015 at her Spring Street residence with her loving husband Bernard and family at her side following a short illness.

Born one of eleven children in Ruskin, FL on, September 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and MarieAnna (Phaneuf) Villemaire. She was educated in boarding schools in the province of Quebec, graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from Marguerite Bourgeoys College in Montreal and started working on her Master’s degree from the University of Montreal before getting married

On September 22, 1951, she was married to Bernard G. LaRocque and together they raised seven children. In addition she was associated for 15 years with the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging as an advocate and case manager. She was a longtime parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary / St. Louis Parish and was a member of both the Nativity Altar Society and Religious Education Program.

Besides her husband Bernard of nearly 64 years, Terri leaves her children, Johanne LaRocque of California, Donald and wife Donna Bushey of Tennessee, Suzanne and husband Bruce Lord of Saint Albans, Norman and wife Debby Smothers of Ruskin, Florida, Marianne and husband Luke Rainville of Highgate, Louanne and husband Myron Collins of Highgate and Pierre LaRocque of Ferrisburgh and fiancée Megan Fulwiler of Albany, New York; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister, Yvonne Kiraly of Montreal; Brothers, Father Arthur Villemaire, John J. Villemaire and Joseph Armand Villemaire all of Ruskin, FL and Alfred Villemaire, Jr., of Sherbrook, Quebec.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will take place later in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 6 to 8p.m. Father Austin will conduct a Vigil Service at 7:45p.m. and remain after for private confessions.

Gifts in Terri’s memory may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency-Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans 05478.
