I have a special place in my heart for chefs and managers who conjure wine pairings for their Restaurant Week menus. At The Windjammer Restaurant and Upper Deck Pub in South Burlington, the wine list is a labor of love that has won the esteemed Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — and so they've come up with some tantalizing wine pairings to complement their $25 dinner menu. For $15, guests can add the suggested pairings for each course, such as an Illahe Viognier with the artisan cheese board; a Kono Sauvignon Blanc with Dijon-and-sweet-potato-crusted Atlantic salmon fillet; and a St. Supéry Moscato with their 24-Karat Cake.
Further north at Steeple Market in Fairfax, the wine pairings come in the form of a bottle you can pick up with your take-out meal. Suggested libations for the $15 dinner menu include a Primal Roots Red Blend (a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel) with pan-seared pork loin in a walnut-Parmesan crust; and Dreaming Tree Chardonnay with a raspberry cheesecake.
