Obituary: Lionel H. Gagne

Lionel H. Gagne, age 84 years, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013, in the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family at his side.

Born in Highgate Center on October 14, 1929, he was the son of Emile and Alma (Rivard) Gagne. He attended Highgate schools and later moved to Sanford Maine where he married the former Laurianne Gagne who survives him and worked at the Goodall Wostered Mill for two years. In 1954 he moved to Springfield, Mass and worked for Leo Ouellette Construction as a cement finisher. In 1969, Lionel moved back to Highgate, built his home and worked for various construction companies including, Pizzagalli, Kencliff, Bread Loaf and Engelberth. He retired from maintenance at IBM in 1991.

He loved wood working, riding his motorcycle at hill climbs and scrambles, racing snowmobiles and watching NASCAR on television.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Laurianne Gagne; eight children, Roland Gagne and partner Denise Dumont, Linda Gagne and husband Allen, Janice LaFlame and husband Paul, Russell Gagne and wife Darlene, Michael Gagne and wife Brenda, Darlene Morin and fiancé Jerrun Spear, Gordon Gagne and wife Michelle and Scott Gagne and wife Paula; a nephew, Leslie Gagne whom he raised for several years; two brothers, Rosaire and Donat Gagne; two sisters, Loretta Quilliam and husband Fred and Rita Chapola and husband Rudy; a brother-in-law, Norman Compagna, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as several additional nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Lionel was predeceased by his sisters, Lorraine Nichols and Lucille Compagna; a brother, Ovila Gagne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rachel Gagne, Theresa Mainville, and Antoine and Alberta E. Gagne and David Gagne.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday October 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin St., Highgate Center. Father Emmanuel I. Ajanma will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family lot in Saint Louis Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Gifts in Lionel's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston 05495.
