Marcel Leon Beauvais, age 86 years, was a longtime resident of Swanton and for the past 5 years in St. Albans, died early Sunday morning, July 31, 2016, in the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Holyoke, Mass on August 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Ulderic and Anna (Pelletier) Beauvais. On September 30, 1950, he married the former Claire Beland who survives him.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Army Airborne Division during both the Korean and Vietnam era and was awarded many medals and commendations. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 1969 as a Sergeant First Class.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Saint Albans Moose Lodge # 1090.
In addition to his wife Claire of St. Albans, Marcel leaves three daughters, Diane Knight of St. Albans, Vivian Fortin of St. Albans and Edith Depatie and husband Luc of Highgate; a son, Robert Beauvais and wife Connie of Charlestown, ME; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and a sister, Therese Beauvais of Granby, Quebec.
Besides his parents Marcel was predeceased by four brothers, six sisters and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Depatie.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August, 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. Full Military Honors will be accorded the deceased immediately following the liturgy.
Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Father Luke will lead a vigil service at 6:45 p.m. and will remain for private confessions.
